Summary
Coefficients are determined for regression of insolation upon bright sunshine, using daily data from the Craigenbay Weather Station in Scotland. The analysis indicates a high degree of correlation (r between 0.820 and 0.948). The size of the regression coefficientsa andb is seen as indicative of the degree of transmission during the month. The values of insolation are used in the Penman equation to obtain evaporation rates for the area. Weekly evaporation values taken from a Class A pan are regressed against the Penman values and the regression coefficient of 0.8 is suggested as appropriate weighting for pan values in order to obtain actual rates.
