Conclusions
In answer to the questions posed at the beginning of this report, the following conclusions were reached:
-
1.
With the unproven but possible exception of residual antral innervation in some but not all patients, preservation of the hepatic and celiac vagi by the selective technic permits complete vagotomy of the stomach in man.
-
2.
The selective technic provides consistently successful results of permanently complete or adequate vagotomy and climinates the occurrence of inadequate vagotomy.
-
3.
These results are based on the anatomic accuracy of the selective technic in providing the means for the positive encirclement and transection of all gastric vagi.
