Ergebnisse einer zweiten Silbermöwen(Larus argentatus)-Bestandsregelung auf der insel Scharhörn, Elbmündung

Zusammenfassung

Vom 27.–30. Mai 1987 wurde der Großmöwenbestand auf der von Seeschwalben dicht besiedelten Insel Scharhörn zum zweiten Mal nach 1986 durch Abschuß mit Kleinkalibergewehr aus dem Tarnzelt heraus reduziert. Der vor Beginn der Maßnahme auf 125 Paare geschätzte Brutbestand (nurmehr ca. 25 % des vor dem Eingriff 1986 vorhandenen Bestandes) wurde um 143 Vögel (137 Silber- und 6 Heringsmöwen) verringert. Die infolge der schlechten Witterung späte Ansiedlung vordem nicht anwesender Brutvögel wird als Hauptursache dafür angesehen, daß der Mitte Juni ermittelte Brutbestand trotz der erheblichen Reduzierung schließlich in einer ähnlichen Größenordnung lag wie vor dem Eingriff.

Summary

After an initial herring gull cull on the island of Scharhörn in 1986 (Vauk andPrüter 1986), control measures were applied for a second time in May 1987 in order to prevent different species of terns breeding there in high density from competition for nesting places. The gulls were shot from tents situated inside the colony using a .22 long rifle, high velocity. The herring gull breeding stock before starting the measures was estimated to about 125 pairs (only 25 % of the population present before the 1986 cull). 143 individuals (137 herring- and 6 lesser black-backed gulls) were shot. Late arrival of breeding birds due to bad weather conditions is considered to be the main reason for the fact, that the breeding population of herring gulls on Scharhörn in mid June reached nearly the same level as it had before the start of the cull.

Du 17 au 30 mai 1987, l'effectif des goëlands vivant sur l'Ile de Scharhörn, fortement colonisée par les sternes, a été décimé pour la seconde fois après 1986 par un tir effectué au moyen d'un fusil de petit calibre à partir d'une cache.

L'effectif, estimé au départ à 125 couples nicheurs — soit quelque 25 % de l'effectif présent avant l'intervention de 1986 — a été réduit de 143 oiseaux (137 goëlands argentés et 6 goëlands bruns). La colonisation tardive — en raison de conditions atmosphériques défavorables — d'oiseaux nicheurs, jusqu'alors absents, est considérée comme la cause principale de ce que la population nicheuse, recensée à la mi-juin, se situait finalement à un niveau comparable à celui observé avant l'intervention visant à une réduction substantielle de la population.
