Zahn- und Zahnbetterkrankungen beim alternden Elch(Alces alces)-Ein Beitrag zur vergleichenden Parodontologie

Zusammenfassung

Vier mazerierte Elchunterkiefer, die aus desorganisierten Populationen stammen, wurden untersucht. Messung der Alveolarknochenresorption sowie röntgenologische und histologische Befunde ergaben, daß bei drei dieser Tiere eine mit steigendem Alter zunehmende entzündliche Parodontalerkrankung bestand. Mögliche Ursachen für die Krankheit, die letztlich zu Zahnausfall und zum Tod der Tiere führte, werden diskutiert und mit ähnlichen Zahnerkrankungen bei Gemsen und Schafen verglichen.

Schäden durch Ernährung und soziale Desorganisation scheinen auch beim Wildtier die Entstehung vonParodontopathien zu begünstigen.

Summary

Four macerated lower jaws of elk, from disorganised populations, were examined. Measurement of the alveolar bone ressorption, as well as radiological findings revealed that in three of the animals there was a parodontal inflamation which increased in severity with age. Possible causes of the illness, which in the end led to loss of teth and death of the animals, are discussed and compared with similar dental illnesses in chamois and sheep.

Damage as a result of feeding and social disorder also seem to promote the emergence of parodontopathies in the animal.

Résumé

Quatre maxillaires inférieurs d'elan ayant subi une macération et provenant de populations désorganisées sont analysés. La mesure de la résorption de l'os alvéolaire de même que l'examen aux rayons X et celui des tissus révélèrent chez trois de ces animaux une parodontopathie inflammatoire croissant avec l'âge. Les causes possibles de la maladie, qui aboutit finalement à la perte des dents et à la mort des animaux, font l'objet d'une discussion et d'une comparaison avec des affections analogues chez le Chamois et chez le Mouton.

Des atteintes causées par l'alimentation et par désorganisation sociale semblent, également chez l'animal sauvage, favoriser l'apparition de parodontopathies.
