In November, 1984, the Industry, Environment and Technology Group of the Institution of Environmental Sciences organised a seminar in London in association with the Centre for Extension Studies of the University of Technology, Loughborough, UK, entitled ‘An Update on Acid Rain’.The Environmentalist carries here, the Chairman, Dr J. N. B. Bell's Opening Remarks to the seminar. Elsewhere in this edition one of the papers from the seminar, by Dr W. O. Binns, is presented in full. Two further papers from this important conference will appear in Volume 6, Part 1 (Spring, 1986).
