Abstract
Data are presented on the pH and acid content of beverages in common use in American hospitals at this time. Pineapple and citrus juices, and most carbonated drinks, have a pH low enough to activate pepsin and have an acid content comparable to or exceeding the basal gastric secretion. Suggestions are made for elimination of some of these products from the diet of the patient with an active peptic ulcer.
