Immunofluorescence and immunoperoxidase techniques for detecting antibodies to malignant catarrhal fever in infected cattle

Summary

The indirect immunoperoxidase and immunofluorescent antibody techniques were compared for their ability to detect antibodies to malignant catarrhal fever virus in experimentally and naturally infected cattle. The immunoperoxidase test detected titres of antibody 8-fold higher than those detected by immunofluorescence. The immunoperoxidase technique detected antibodies in all of 23 naturally infected cattle whereas immunofluorescence only detected antibodies in 19. The immunoperoxidase test gave good definition of intracellular virus antigens.

Résumé

Les tests indirects d'immunofluorescence et d'immunopéroxydase ont été comparés quant à leur capacité de déceler les anticorps spécifiques du virus de coryza gangreneux chez des bovins artificiellement ou naturellement infectés. Les titres du test à la peroxydase sont huit fois supérieurs à ceux de l'immunofluorescence; celle-ci ne décèle des anticorps que chez 19 des 23 animaux infectés naturels tandis que le premier test les révèle tous positifs. Le test à la péroxydase donne une meilleure définition des antigènes viraux intracellulaires.

Las Tecnicas De Inmunofluorescencia E Inmunoperoxidasa Para Detectar Anticuerpos De Fiebre Catarral Maligna En Ganado Infectado

Resumen

Se compararon las pruebas de inmunofluorescencia e inmunoperoxidasa indirectas, para detectar la habilidad de determinar niveles de anticuerpos de fiebre catarral maligna en ganado infectado natural y experimentalmente. La prueba de la inmunoperoxidasa detectó títulos 8 veces mayores que aquellos detectados mediante inmunofluorescencia. La ténica de inmunoperoxidasa detectó anticuerpos en todos los 23 animales infectados naturalmente mientras que con inmunofluorescencia se detectaron anticuerpos en 19 únicamente. La prueba de inmunoperoxidasa dió buenas definicones de los antígenos virales intracelulares.
