Antigenic similarity between squamous cell carcinoma of horn (horn cancer) and normal bovine foetal tissues

Summary

Normal bovine foetal (liver and skin) and horn cancer tissue antigens were examined using double diffusion agar gel precipitation and immuno-electrophoretic tests to detect any cross reactivity among them. Rabbit horn cancer antisera absorbed with normal bovine liver, skin and horn core epithelium antigens, when tested with foetal skin and liver (4 to 6 months of gestation), revealed the presence of 2 foetal antigens in horn cancer. Immuno-chemically 2 of the horn cancer antigens were found to be identical to the bovine foetal antigens.

Résumé

Des tissus foetaux normaux (foie et peau) et des antigènes tissulaires du cancer de la corne ont été examinés en double précipito-diffusion et en immunoélectrophorèse afin de déceler des réactions croisées. Des sérums de lapin anti-cancer de la corne, absorbés par les antigènes normaux du foie, de la peau et de l'épithélium kératogène ont montré la présence de 2 antigènes foetaux dans le cancer de la corne, lorsqu'ils étaient éprouvés avec du foie et de la peau de foetus (4 à 6 mois de gestation). Deux antigènes du cancer de la corne sont trouvés immunologiquement identiques aux antigènes foetaux des bovins.

Resumen

Se examinaron antígenos de tejido fetal normal bovino (hígado y piel) y de carcinomas de células escamosas de la base del cuerno. Las pruebas utilizadas fueron la de precipitación-diffusión doble en agar gel e inmuno-electroforesis. El propósito fué determinar reacciones cruzadas entre ellos. Antisuero de conejo preparado mediante inoculaciones con tejido canceroso y absorbido con antígenos de hígado bovino normal, piel y epitelio del centro del cuerno, cuando se probaron con hígado y piel fetal (4 a 6 meses de gestación), revelaron la presencia de 2 antígenos fetales en el carcinoma del cuerno. Inmunoquímicamente, 2 de los antígenos del carcinoma del cuerno fueron idénticos a los antígenos fetales.
