Summary

An outbreak of tropical theileriosis (T. annulata infection) is reported in artificial insemination Holstein bulls in Kabul (Afghanistan). The diagnostic work at the Central Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory is described and the treatment given and results obtained by the Kabul Animal Health Clinic are reported. This case report constitutes the first account of the disease in Afghanistan where diagnostic confirmation has been made from material sent to international reference centres.

Résumé

Un foyer de theileriose tropicale (infection àTh. annulata) est apparu chez les taureaux Holstein du Centre d'insémination artificielle de Kaboul en Afghanistan.

Les travaux de diagnostic effectués par le Laboratoire central vétérinaire de diagnostic sont décrits ainsi que le traitement appliqué et les résultats obtenus à la clinique de santé animale de Kaboul.

Le cas en question constitue la première relation sur cette maladie en Afghanistan, dont la confirmation a été assurée par les Centres internationaux de référence où du matériel contaminé a été adressé à cet effet.

Resumen

Se describe un foco de Teileriosis tropical (T. annulata) en Kabul en toros Holstein de inseminación artificial, resumiendo la labor de diagnóstico realizada en el Laboratorio Central de Diagnóstico Veterinario y describiendo el tratamiento instituido y resultados obtenidos por la Clinica Veterinaria de Kabul.

El informe constituye el primero de la enfermedad en Afganistán con confirmación del diagnóstico mediante muestras enviadas a centros de referencia internacionales.
