Intramural hematoma of the esophagus

An unusual complication of vagotomy

The American Journal of Digestive Diseases Aims and scope Submit manuscript

Summary

An unusual case is reported, of intramural heomatoma of the esophagus causing almost complete obstruction of the esophagus as a complication to transabdominal vagotomy. Some of the similar cases reported in the literature as transient cardiospasm or achalasia could well represent the same pathology. Periesophageal fibrosis and esophageal intramural hematoma should be considered in cases of postvagotomydyspliagia. 1139 Mott Foundation Bldg. Flint, Mich. 48502
