Summary

The paper presents a case of complete esophageal obstruction following retching and vomiting, as well as prolonged recumbency during labor, operation, and the postoperative period. The pathogenesis and site of the lesion are discussed. The authors believe that there was a breakdown of the normal esophagogastric sphincter mechanism resulting in corrosive esophagitis and complete esophageal obstruction. The importance of early diagnosis and therapy is emphasized.
