Effect of peptides on the uptake of Co57B12 by the guinea pig intestinal mucosa homogenates

Summary and Conclusions

Over 30 di-, tri-, tetra-, and polypeptides derived from 14 aminoacids were assayed for their enhancing activity upon the uptake of radioactive B12 in the guinea pig intestinal homogenate system. No unequivocal activity of these materials could be demonstrated. The negative results obtained (including those with the use of glutamic acid) do not lend support to the concept that simple low-molecular-weight peptides or amino-acid units play a role in the intestinal absorption of Vitamin B12.
