Summary and conclusions
1. Two cases of giant cyst of the CBD are reported in 2 women 20 and 34 yr. old with histories of, respectively, 7 and 26 mo. of jaundice, abdominal mass, and abdominal pain.
2. We believe that these are the first 2 cases of radiologic visualization of giant cyst of the CBD in which conclusive preoperative diagnosis was made.
3. Radiologic diagnosis was made possible by use of a transparietohepatic polyvinyl tube, introduced into the intrahepatic biliary tree (in Case 1), and by intrahepatic puncture (in Case 2).
4. The results of choledochocysticoduodenostomy as advocated by Gross and performed in our cases confirm his conclusions: there is no reflux of intestinal contents into the cyst, and there is a tendency of the CBD to resume its normal size and shape.
