Peritoneoscopy: Its value as a diagnostic aid

  • Published:
The American Journal of Digestive Diseases Aims and scope Submit manuscript

Summary

One hundred and sixty-nine peritoneoscopies have been performed at the USAF Hospital, Lackland USAF Aerospace Medical Center over the past 2 1/2 yr. The goal of the peritoneoscopy was accomplished in 94 per cent of the cases, which closely correlates with the findings of other authors. There was no mortality and minimal morbidity. The accuracy of the clinical diagnosis was raised from 76 to 94 per cent.

The authors feel that peritoneoscopy deserves more widespread use and base this impression on the fact that the procedure has repeatedly been shown to be safe and reliable.
