Summary

Epiphrenic diverticula are among the more unusual lesions of the esophagus that are often misdiagnosed and misunderstood. Occurring alone or in association with other lesions, they are a potential source of difficulty to the patient and may develop severe complications.

The etiology and clinical picture of these diverticula have been presented with emphasis on the roentgen diagnosis. When the diverticula are symptomatic, either conservative or surgical treatment is indicated.
