Summary

A case of Mallory-Weiss syndrome has been presented. The source of bleeding was identified and controlled at abdominal exploration, but only after the possibility of that diagnosis was specifically considered and the cardioesophageal mucosal laceration purposefully looked for. The importance of the history of simple nonbloody vomiting followed by hematemesis has been stressed.
