Abstract

The authors investigate the effect of the porosity and thermal stability of roof refractories in combination with the operating parameters on the service life of one- and three-channel open-hearth furnaces and give a relative estimate of each parameter. The service life of furnace roofs is calculated for fixed operating conditions and different combinations of the porosity and thermal stability. Combinations providing specified service life levels for one- and three-channel furnaces are considered.
