Summary

A comparison is made between the parameters of the artificial radioactive isotope Caesium 137 and the surface salinity which were measured in the North Sea during DHI radiological research voyages.

The salinity distribution shows that in the North Sea Caesium 137 is not bound to particular water-bodies having a definite salinity. It is mixed with all types of North Sea water. Turbulent exchange processes play an essential part in the distribution of Cs 137 in the North Sea.

Zusammenfassung

Die auf den radiologischen Forschungsfahrten des DHI in der Nordsee gemessenen Parameter — die Konzentration des künstlichen radioaktiven Isotops Cäsium 137 und der Salzgehalt — werden verglichen.

Die Salzgehaltsverteilungen zeigen, daß das Cäsium 137 in der Nordsee nicht an bestimmte Wasserkörper mit einem festen Salzgehalt gebunden ist. Es wird allen Nordseewasserarten beigemischt. Turbulente Austauschvorgänge spielen eine wesentliche Rolle bei der Verteilung des Cs 137 in der Nordsee.

Résumé

Les paramètres mesurés pendant les campagnes de recherches radiologiques effectuées par le DHI dans la mer du Nord — c'est-à-dire la concentration de l'isotope artificiel radioactif césium 137 et la salinité — sont comparés.

Les distributions de la salinité montrent que dans la mer du Nord la présence de césium 137 n'est pas liée à de certaines masses d'eau ayant une salinité fixe. Il se mêle à toutes les types d'eau dans la mer du Nord. Les processus d'échange turbulent jouent un rôle essentiel en ce qui concerne la distribution du Cs 137 dans la mer du Nord.
