Urgent problems in the search for and creation of β-adrenergic blocking agents

Abstract

The results are presented of a search for hybrid Β-adrenergic blocking agents (combining Β-adrenergic blocking activity with α-adrenergic blocking, vasodilating properties, and also the ability to inhibit the angiotensin-converting enzyme) and Β-adrenergic blocking agents with a prolonged effect among the derivatives of 5-phenoxymethyl-1,2,4-oxadiazole and 4-(2-hydroxy-3-alkylaminopropoxy)indole. One of the studied substances (proxodolol) was introduced into medical practice as a highly efficacious antihypertensive. antianginal, and antiglaucoma drug.
