Spherical cap harmonic analysis applied to the Scandinavian geomagnetic field 1985.0

Summary

A spherical cap harmonic (SCH) analysis was applied to the Scandinavian aeromagnetic survey data completed with some surface measurements all reduced to the epoch 1985.0. The total number of data points were 2125 and the mean distance between the points was 30 km. The analysis was done in two steps: first the IGRF 1985 was subtracted from the field values and a SCH model of the maximum degree 16 (corresponding to a minimum wavelength of 270 km) and with the cap half-angle or 10^o was fitted to the residual field values. The number of statistically significant coefficients was 75. The vector standard error in the final model was 126 nT. In this paper we will present maps showing the total field (F),F-anomaly field and declination in Scandinavia at the epoch 1985.0. Comparisons between SCH maps and Scandinavian magnetic charts will be made.

Zusammenfassung

Eine Kugelfunktionsanalyse, entwickelt für eine Kugelkappe (spherical cap harmonic analysis SCH), wird auf die Daten der skandinavischen aeromagnetischen Vermessung angewandt, welche durch einige Bodenmessungen vervollständigt und auf die Epoche 1985.0 umgerechnet wurde. Der mittlere Abstand zwischen den insgesamt 2125 Datenpunkten betrug 30 km. Die Analyse erfolgte in zwei Schritten: zunächst wurde das IGRF 1985 von den Feldwerten abgezogen und dann ein SCH-Modell vom Grad 16 (entsprechend einer minimalen Wellenlänge von 270 km) und einem Halbwinkel von 10 Grad für die Kugelkappe den Residualfeldwerten angepaßt. Die Zahl der statistisch signifikanten Koeffizienten betrug 75, die Standard-abweichung in dem endgültigen Modell 126 nT. In dieser Arbeit legen wir Karten vor, die das Totalfeld (F) sowie das Feld der Anomalien vonF und der Deklination in Skandinavien zur Epoche 1985.0 zeigen.

Une analyse harmonique sphérique en calotte (en anglais: spherical Cap Harmonic, SCH) a été appliquée aux données du levé aérien du magnétisme scandinave, complétées d'observations en surface, toutes ramenées à l'époque 1985.0. La somme de données s'élève à 2125 observations, correspondant en moyenne à des points situés à 30 km les uns des autres. L'analyse est conduite en deux étapes: le champ magnétique terrestre international de référence (en anglais IGRF) à l'époque 1985 est d'abord soustrait aux valeurs terrain, puis on ajuste aux résidus de ces valeurs un modèle SCH de degré 16 au maximum (correspondant à une longueur d'onde minimum de 270 km), calculé pour une calotte de demi-angle 10^o. Les coefficients statistiquement significatifs sont au nombre de 75. L'erreur standard sur le vecteur atteint 126 nT dans le modèle final. La publication présente des cartes du champ total (F), du champ d'anomalies deF et de la déclinaison en Scandinavie à l'époque 1985.0. Elle procède également à des comparaisons entre les cartes du champ magnétique scandinave et les cartes obtenues au moyen du modèle SCH.
