Abstract

Studies on the relationships of Carabids as predators to Gastropods as prey

Data about the feeding habits ofCarabus problematicus Thoms. andAbax ater Vill. were achieved by means of feeding experiments. The beetles tookArion subfuscus (Drap.),Arion intermedius Norm,Arion circumscriptus John.,Arion rufus (L.) andLimax tenellus O. F.Müller as diet; no preference is to observe.

The comparison of the abundance of the beetles and gastropods in a coniferous forest of the Kottenforst near Bonn shows, that both achieve high densitiy of population during spring and autumn. A mutual influence of both populations is possible.
