Abstract
This paper reviews and discusses distinguishing features of two psychological conditions related to sport injury: malingering and conversion reaction. In addition, it presents a case study of a high school football athlete who experienced conversion blindness. This paper also includes a description of the counseling approach employed to resolve the conversion blindness. Professionals who work with athletes must carefully examine their preparedness to serve clients' presenting problems related to conversion blindness and to consider making professional referrals.
