On the effect of the size of optical systems on the definition of light beams in a turbulent atmosphere

The effect of the initial diameter of a spatially bounded light beam propagating in a turbulent atmosphere on the light intensity on the beam axis is calculated. Experimental data are presented which substantiate the existence of a limiting value of the intensity at the center of the beam, which does not vary when the initial diameter is varied above a certain value.
