Abstract
The welding fumes in shops in the Montreal area were sampled by using a small pump and the PVC filters. The SLOWPOKE reactor was used to determine the concentration of Al, As, Co, Cr, Cs, Fe, Mn, Sb, Sc, W and Zn in filters by instrumental neutron activation. The average concentrations found for these elements are 174, 2.74, 1.26, 26.1, 2.96, 10445, 1254, 0.66, 0.037, 0.67 and 119 μg/m3, respectively. They were compared with Maximum Acceptable Limits in force in Quebec and with Average Detection Limits of these elements in the workroom air.
