History of prices 1839–1847 I pag. 185. Hoe sterk Pierson overtuigd was van de juistheid zijner meening blijkt wel uit het schrijven, dat hij in 1895 richtte tot de Engelsche parlementaire Gold and Silver Commission, ingesteld om de oorzaken van de gewijzigde verhouding tusschen goud en zilver na te gaan: „I know” dus schreef hij o.a., that Mr. Fullarton and other authorities to which he belonged, denied the possibility of an excessive issue of convertible notes, but that is simply a blunder. His argument was that convertible notes when not wanted in the country, where they are issued, are returned to the Bank. To they are, indeed, but only to be exchanged for bullion.
