On the use of andalusite in “warm” paramagnetic amplifiers

  • Published:
Radiophysics and Quantum Electronics Aims and scope

Abstract

An experimental investigation of the inversion of the populations of spin levels of Fe3+ ions in andalusite (Al2SiO5) in the three-centimeter range was carried out in the 2–60‡K temperature range. It was shown that in this temperature range a noticeable effect of two-phonon relaxation processes is absent in andalusite, unlike the case of ruby and rutile. An analysis is given of the possibilities of using andalusite in quantum paramagnetic amplifiers which operate at elevated temperatures.
