In much of the earlier literature, adrenolutin is usually formulated as a trihydroxyindole, i.e. 3,5,6-trihydroxy-N-methylindole, but recent infrared studies have indicated that in the solid state, at least, it exists in the keto form, i.e. 2,3-dihydro-5,6-dihydroxy-3-keto-N-methylindole5.
