Summary
In new-born infants suffering from thePierre Robin syndrome, a plate similar to an obturator is used, which initially prevents glossoptosis, responsible for acute breathing difficulties, and permits bottlefeeding. The therapy is carried out during the first year. This leads, through functional stimuli, to a subsequent lasting development of the tongue and the mandible. In the vast majority of the children examined in the following years, the formation of the profile and occlusion showed good results.
