Abstract
The meridional heat transport obtained from numerical experiments using the general circulation model for the North Atlantic encompassing the equatorial area is analysed. The surface turbulent layer is included in the model, and its realization is based on conservative difference schemes. It is shown that the upper 50 m layer plays a dominant role in the formation of meridional heat transport in the low latitudes.
