Abstract
The influence of urban waste compost on soil fertility was tested by an experiment performed under laboratory conditions in which two soils treated with compost were incubated at a constant moisture for 12 months at 25°C and 35°C. Separately, some soil-compost samples were treated with atrazine at the rate of 40 ppm. Analyses of total and available elements and the characteristics of extracted humus were carried out during the experiment. The initial increase of most of the analytical parameters tested, caused by the addition of compost, was maintained till the end of the experiment. Negligible differences were noted between soils incubated with and without atrazine.
