  19. CIDOC stands for the Center for Intercultural Documentation, an institution in which Illich works, in Cuernavaca (Mexico). The expression ‘chosen ones of CIDOC’ has no pejorative sense here. We only have to think of the high intellectual standard represented by those who take part in CIDOC seminars and discussions: Erich Fromm, Paulo Freire, Peter Berger, Augusto Salazar Bondy, and many others of similar cultural and scientific stature.
