Director, since 1978, of the Adult Literacy Basic Skills Unit (ALBSU). Former Deputy Director of the government-funded Adult Literacy Resource Agency. From 1973 to 1975, as a member of the British Association of Settlements, he actively participated in the political campaign for adult literacy in the United Kingdom. Author, co-author and editor of various publications on adult literacy and basic education, notably: A Right to Read-Action for a Literate Britain.
