Professor of Sociology at the Polish Academy of Sciences, he has taught at universities in France, the Federal Republic of Germany and the United States. He is particularly interested in the sociology of youth and education, and has carried out comparative research on a number of countries. At the moment he is leading a group of researchers investigating educational inequalities between urban and rural schools. Author of a number of books and articles, includingThe Barriers of Youth Promotion, School Attendance of Polish Youth andSchool System and Industrialization.
