Professor of modern economic history at the K. Marx University of Economics, Budapest, and former Rector of the university. Has been visiting Professor at the University of California, Berkeley, and Fellow of St Antony's College and All Souls College, Oxford University. Member of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences and head of its Department of Philosophy and History. Author, or co-author, of 16 books and about 200 studies.
