Eating, drinking and activity in rats following 5-hydroxytryptophan (5-HTP) administration

Résumé

L'activité chez le rat a été enregistrée au moyen de cellules photoélectriques dans une cage permettant la locomotion. Après l'administration du 5-HTP, l'activité totale diminue mais les résultats suggèrent que les animaux restent éveillés une proportion plus grande du temps.

L'administration du 5-HTP en doses peu élevées est aussi suivie d'une augmentation de la quantité d'eau bue et d'une diminution de la quantité de nourriture mangée par le rat. Il semblerait donc préférable d'utiliser l'eau comme réenforcant positif plutôt que la nourriture lorsqu'il s'agit d'étudier l'effet de la drogue par des études de conditionnement instrumental.
