Cromoglicaat-gebruik bij CARA-patiënten

Abstract

The therapy with cromoglycate is hampered by poor patient compliance. For this reason the handling of this drug by patients with asthma has been investigated. Technical problems concerning the appropriate use and cleaning of the inhaler have been met frequently. In addition, a high percentage of the patients experience a fit of tightness after the application of cromoglycate. About one out of each three users does not realise that the drug gives no immediate relief of the clinical symptoms. The results of this study urge to improvement of the instructions for the application and cleaning of the Spinhaler {R and the information of the patient on the mechanism of action of cromoglycate.

Samenvatting

Naar aanleiding van een geringe therapietrouw bij het gebruik van cromoglicaat is onderzoek verricht naar de manier waarop CARA-patiënten met dit geneesmiddel omgaan. Een aantal technische Problemen betreffende het gebruik en het schoonmaken van de inhalator is geconstateerd. Verder blijkt cromoglicaattoediening bij een vrij hoog percentage van de patiënten door een benauwdheidsaanval te worden gevolgd. Het inzicht dat van cromoglicaat geen directe verlichting van de Symptomen is te verwachten, blijkt bij ca. één derde van de gebruikers niet aanwezig te zijn. Een betere voorlichting over een correct gebruik en schoonmaken van de Spinhaler® en de werking van cromoglicaat lijkt op zijn plaats.
