Abstract
Air temperatures and relative humidities were recorded at a height of about 2 m above ground, at ground level and under fallen leaves, rocks, or down holes in rainforest, montane forest, grassland and desert in Central and tropical South America, during August and September, 1983. The results are compared with similar results previously obtained in tropical Africa. Measurements were also made down the burrows of tarantulas in Panama; and the influence of radiation on the activities of leaf-cutting ants was noted.
