Summary
18 hours after the injection of 0.2 mg colchicine a statistically significant increase in the activity of alkaline phosphatase in the rat-liver was observed.
The desintegration of desoxyribonucleic acid was not significantly increased.
Histochemic investigation of the alkaline phosphatase activity yielded corresponding results with a characteristic heightening of activity in the cell nuclei.
The relations between the inhibiting effect of colchicine on mitosis and the activation of alkaline phosphatase are discussed.
