Osborne Scott is professor of history at the City College of N. Y. and director of Africa House, a college-supported center for the study of African culture. He presented this paper at the “Roots of Open Education” conference held at CCNY in April 1974. The full proceedings of the conference is being published by the Workshop Center for Open Education in 1977.
