Ecotin: A most adaptable protease inhibitor

Ecotin, a recently discovered protease inhibitor fromE. coli, inhibits virtually all serine proteases in the chymotrypsin superfamily. X-ray structures and mutational analysis show how pan-inhibition relates to structure and flexibility.
