Abstract

A method is described for the analyses of water samples in the Freetown area of Sierra Leone /West Africa/, for their boron concentrations. The method involves alpha counting during thermal neutron irradiation of the samples utilising the10Ba/n,α/7Li reaction. The alpha counting is via a liquid scintillator which also incorporates the water samples. A detailed outline of the experimental setup is given and the results obtained from measurement on water samples presented.
