Abstract
The observed decay of F centres in γ-irradiated NaCl during photoannealing by the light of 800 nm is explained on the basis of electron transfer from the excited F centre to the excited state of the self-trapped exciton. The recovery of F absorption in crystals stored in the dark after photoannealing is explained on the basis of diffusion of F centres from the part of the crystal unexposed to spectrophotometer light to the exposed part of the crystal.
