Abstract
Dissolution of γ-irradiated ammonium chloride in aqueous solutions of nitrate and iodide results in the formation of NO −2 and I2 as products. Appropriate mechanisms have been suggested in the light of known stable radiolytic products formed in the salt during irradiation. The variation in the yields of products in the solution with the variation in γ-dose, amount, particle size is studied. The effect of thermal annealing on the yields of products is explained on the basis of annealing of radiolytic products.
