Summary
In rabbit experiments it has been proved that smaller doses of ACTH (0.2 U/kg) enhance the phagocytosis of bacteria by leukocytes. The effect develops as early as 1 h after injection, reaches the peak at about 2 h (mean: 32%) and is over in 4 or 5 h. Only larger doses diminish phagocytotic activity.
