Alle Plastiden in den Wurzelzellen vonAzolla imbricata erweisen sich elektronenmikroskopisch als von Chloroplastiden-Natur. Sie zeigen granenartige Strukturen und enthalten zum Teil Stärkekörner.

In einigen Zellen der Wurzelmitte werden auch Proplastiden festgestellt.
