Summary
Male rats were fedad libitum. As drinking solution they got instead of water a 10 vol% solution of ethanol or a 2.5 vol% solution of methanol. After 200 days all animals were sacrified. Ultrastructure of liver cells was studied.
The morphological alterations in ‘ethanol-rats’ are slight or not existent. In ‘methanol-rats’ the endoplasmic reticulum is highly enlarged, the mitochondria small and compressed. Nucleus, Golgi complex, and plasma membrane do not show any pathological alteration.
