La mélanine intégumentaire du crustacé isopode,Asellus, est un pigment ommochrome, avec des propriétés très semblables à celles de la xanthommatine. Ce pigment existe aussi dans l'intégument dePorcellio et d'autres isopodes, ainsi que du myriapodeIulus.
