Zwei Baumarten der ariden Zone zeigen den Crassulaceen-Säurestoffwechsel, obwohl sie keine Sukkulenten sind. Dieser Säurestoffwechsel hängt also von der Anpassung an gewisse Umweltfaktoren (Temperatur, Luftfeuchtigkeit) ab.
