Summary
The authors have tested the action of injection of distilled water (1/20, 1/10, 1/2 and 1 cm3) on the development of the chick embryo. These injections were made at different moments of incubation. The two largest doses cause marked early mortality of embryos; when the doses are smaller, the lethal action is very slight. Distilled water has no teratogenic action: teratogenic action for the smallest doses is nil, and very little for the largest doses. The puncture alone of the egg has neither lethal nor teratogenic action.
