Summary
Larval salivary glands of early third instar larvae were implanted into the abdomens of adult females. After a culture of 20 days, the nuclei show at least the normal maximal DNA content which is characteristic of full-grown larvae or prepupae. There are, however, also nuclei in the implants with a DNA content that exceeds up to 3.5 times the average found in controls.
